...a tough warning issued to teenagers by Maryland lawmakers yesterday according to an article in the Washington Post.
The House of Delegates approved a bill that would deny driver's licenses to students with 10 or more unexcused absences in the previous calendar year. A similar measure passed the Senate Judiciary Committee late yesterday, and it appears to have wide support in the full chamber.

It's unfortunate that they have to go to these lengths. Shouldn't the parents of these children be putting a foot somewhere??!!

Yes definitely. Unfortunately some parents are more worried about being their teens "friend" than actually parenting them.
As for this bill, I'm still uncertain as to whether I would support it. I was hoping to get some feed back from people. I feel I can make better decisions after hearing all side of the arguements.
Personally, on one hand there is the government once again trying to raise "our" children. On the other hand, the system cannot educate them if they are not in school.
As I said, I'm still on the fence with this one.
The sad reality is that we may indeed need the gov't to raise many of our children who DON'T have good parents.
What a world we live in.
If there is an over whelmingly problem with attendance in the public school system and this is one good solid way to enforce the issue plus encounter positive results, then so be it. If your child has good attendance, it should not be a worry....ever! Any better ideas?
