The below notes are my personal notes and are not intended to be all-inclusive or official minutes for the Board of Education meetings and are provided as a request from my supporters and the general public in a personal effort to be more transparent. Although I have diligently tried to make these notes as unbiased and accurate as possible, I am only human and do make mistakes. Individual names are spelled to the best of my ability.

  • Lukas - Chess Tournament, thank you to Mr. Cummings and all staff.  Black History Month events; Legislative luncheon in Annapolis, Vex Robotics Competition, alot of sporting events, swimming, wrestling, basketball and of course cheering.
  • Brown - funeral service for Bernie Jameson.  Commissioners CIP Meeting, State Supt search meeting, NARFE meeting, Diggs Black History program about life of Mr, Diggs, Acapella competition, CSM Black History program, Sayanora party, NAACP Trailblazers event (disappointed she could not deliver diplomas to past graduates), DI Competition, CTE Tour, HITS Expo
  • Battle-Lockhart - Policy 2000 Series Committee, CIP Meeting, Teacher of the Year Reception, Somers Black History program, Guest speaker at North Point, Visits at Billingsley, Berry and Middleton; PTO meeting at Middleton, NAACP Trailblazers event (some of things mentioned about BOE was not true, disappointed)., CTE Program at Stone. 
  • Wilson - Robotics competition, HITS Expo, SMAC wrestling championship, Stone vs. Oxon Hill Basketball; attended Annapolis for advocating for Charles County, MABE legislative luncheon, thank you to CT Wilson, NARFE meeting, Somers Black History month program, CTE Program Tour, impressed with Financial Literacy presentation, visits at Neal , Brown, Middleton, guest speaker at Somers, All County Thespian Troop
  • McGraw - Legislative Luncheon, member of MABE focus group for selection of new State Superintendent, congratulations to Mr. Wood for his performance at the Acapella competition, thank you to Dr. Hill and staff for increase in graduation rate, Senior portfolio interviews at Lackey, Read Across America at TC Martin, JP Ryon, Diggs, Middleton and Wade.

  • Hancock - Insurance requirement for groups spectators is a hindrance to some groups
  • Battle-Lockhart - did we forget bleachers at Billingsley; no over-sized gym that doesn't typically hold sporting events .
  • Wilson - how do we communicate to the public about opportunities.
Legislative update - Report
  • HB1300 - Kirwan Blueprint for MD future.  Passed in House now in Senate.
  • HB1 - Built to Learn Act - Passed in House
  • HB1022 - Debra Davis bill on reporting for alternative programs.  House will prob pass.
  • HB624 - Debra Davis co sponsor; juvenile interrogation by law enforcement
  • SB760 - Lunch shaming
  • HB1008 - fixes bill 486 from 2019 on background checks.  Wilson correcting his own bill
  • Wilson - all delegates should follow Wilson's lead in communication.  Disappointed in delegation 'surprise' bills in Annapolis.

Agenda for Board of Education Meeting, 3/10/20

The Board of Education’s next monthly meeting is Tuesday, March 10 at the Charles County Public Schools (CCPS) Jesse L. Starkey Administration Building in La Plata. The public portion of the meeting begins at 1 p.m. Student and staff recognition starts at 4:30 p.m., followed by public forum at 6 p.m.
The meeting is streamed live to the CCPS website, ccboe.com. Board meetings are also televised live on Comcast Channel 96 and Verizon FiOS Channel 12. The following is a meeting agenda and is subject to change.
