Some Improvements Seen in School Safety
According to a report by the National Center for Educational Statistics, fewer students have been victims of school-related crime during the 2004-05 school year, compared to the year before.
The victimization rate of students age 12-18 at school declined from 73 per 1,000 in 2003 to 55 per 1,000 in 2004, states Indicators of School Crime and Safety issued Dec. 3.
But there was no decline in the percentages of students reporting violent crime between 2003 and 2005. The number of homicides of students ages 5 to 18 at school was higher in 2004-05 than in 2000-01 but remained below most years in the 1990s.

What about Young's question of how many violent offenders are in the CCPS system? Is staff ever going to answer this? I know for a fact that there are numerous students in the middle schools and high schools wearing electronic devices on their ankles!
Yes, Jennifer, do you know when this will be addressed?
Violent offenders maybe have a right to education, but isn't there a place these kids can learn while they are also watched closer and away from the non-violent law-abiding students?
Is this to be an agenda item soon?
If not, how can we make it one?

It is on my list of items to bring up onder "Unfinished Business" at tomorrow's Board meeting. Hopefully will be able to update by Wednesday.
Well, I asked for the numbers again. I have another possible route I might be able to take...I'll wait till next week and see if we get them in an update
