Creationism rears its head in Texas schools

The Texas State Board of Education is using its powers to ensure that textbooks give a nod to creationist theories

"In the first place God made idiots. This was for practice. Then he made school boards."

Mark Twain wrote that in 1897, and Americans still quote it, with feeling. It comes to mind for many observers of a current battle over science education in Texas.

Read more about it HERE.

This reminds me of that ill fated Charles County BOE meeting that had to be moved to La Plata High School's auditorium due to the over flow crowd. I believe it was called "Policy 3000" (I may have the number wrong). The so called "list of goals". Passing out Bibles during lunch, intelligent design, banning books. I'm told one Board member actually suggested that the system compile a list of gay teachers and pregnant girls.

And people have a problem with elected Boards of Education......

Anonymous,
You were close but "no cigar"

It was Policy 6000...and no Board member ever suggested a list of gay teachers and pregnant girls. Actually this is the first time I've ever heard the one.
