AP Exams

In regards to "Anonymous" post, "I'd like to see how the students did on the AP exams. It seems like more and more students take the exams, but are the scores getting higher, lower, or staying the same? I would think that a national or state-wide assessment is a better way to see how the students are doing in the county compared to other counties in the state."

I thought it was better to address this as an individual topic because the discussion could beome lengthy.

I've tried to insert the link (see bottom of post) to the most up to date data received by the Board from staff. Hopefully it will work. We have not yet received the data for the 05-06 school year. If you have additional questions, or the link does not work, please respond and I'll try again.

We are interested in seeing the AP scores of the classes and how the classes did in all the schools.
That way, we parents can decide whether or not our children will take certain classes in the school.
Seeing how well the class is taught and how much the teacher actually knows the material is more important to me than how many more students are shoved into the class (yes, shoved!)

Board Member Abell,

The data from the link only shows enrollment. The strength of a county's AP program cannot be determined by the number of kids taking AP classes and exams if half of them are getting 1s on the exam. That means they are not learning anything.

Does the Board have any record of student PERFORMANCE on AP exams? Such as the number of students passing, students received 3s, 4s, and 5s on exams?

To Anonymous,
FIrst, please consider using some sort of screen name if you don't want to use your real name. There are so many Anonymous posts, I lose track of who I'm replying too and it's hard for other readers to follow the posts.

Now for the AP statistics. We do not have the results from the past school year as of yet, it will probably by August or September when we receive. I do have results for the 2004 - 2005 school year. It is by subject for the county (sorry, not broken down by school). It shows the number of students enrolled for each subject, the total tested (not all take the test), and how many received a 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and the mean average grade. I would love to share with you but I'm uncertain as to how to accomplish that. (Remember I'm new to this so be nice.) I could not find the document on the CCPS website so I could link to it. I have it in Excel. If anyone out there knows how I can add it somehow, please advise! I can say that I was very discouraged by reviewing the statistics because we were below the state average in all 28 subjects. I hope the 05-06 results will show an upward trend.

Hi Ms. Abell:

Where are the scores on this year's AP exams?

Jennifer Abell said...

Presented at the last Board meeting. You should be able to receive copies or they might be posted on CCBOE. Either way, let me know if you still need them.

We need the tests with the scores by subject and by school.
This was done last year. It shouldn't be a problem this year.
