As a parent of children in the Charles county school system, I wanted to express my frustration with the way that today's school board meeting was handled. I happened upon the broadcast today, and it has bothered me immensley.

While I am aware that the topic that was presented is highly debatable, I find it amazing that the board would shoot down a proposition that could generate large monies for our county without even asking questions of the gentlemen giving the presentation.

It seemed as if Mrs. Wise had some sort of personal vendetta against the gentleman and set up the meeting so that they could not comment on the acqusations that were thrown at them.

I currently have two fundraising packets on my countertop that my son has brought home. He is encouraged to sell items so that he can win prizes...the school goes as far as to allow these companies to come into the schools and "tease" if you will, the children with the thought of winning Ipods and other large prizes.

How we can approve of activities such as these but won't even give a second look to a program that would place a small sign on the side of our buses is beside me. The gentleman even stated that they would be willing to work all the details through the school board....

I wish people would learn to work together and come up for solutions to problems such as budget cuts instead of turning up their heads at new, innovative, ideas. I just read an article written by Mrs. Wise were she commented on how well the $13 million budget cuts in 2 years were handled....$13 million in Budget cuts??? And we aren't open to new ideas? Perhaps this isn't the perfect solution, but we owe it to these kids to start thinking more creatively and not shoot down new ideas out of the gate.

Thank you for your comments. While the proposed program could generate some funds, I beg to differ that it could generate large monies. Maybe large monies for my personal household budget but not wqhen it comes to running am entire school system. I based my vote on what I believed to be the best decision for the system and our students. I would not like to see any defacing of the iconic yellow school bus or further distractions on other drivers when in the proximity of our buses.
I am all for hearing new ideas and working together, but truely do NOT believe this program was in the best interest of our students.
