It should have been a sign. And in this particular case, one that could have far-reaching consequences for public schools, it actually was.

The U.S. Supreme Court is debating whether to overturn a lower court decision in what has become known as the “Bong Hits 4 Jesus” case. Known formally as Morse v. Frederick, the battle over a principal’s right to discipline a student for offensive and disruptive speech is perhaps the biggest of its kind since the Vietnam War.
