For certain, I back Jennifer Abell!
She is a dedicated, hard working mother and citizen of Charles County who takes her position on the board seriously! She wants what is best for our children in the present and in the future! She deserves another term! Her passion is Charles County!

I back Jennifer Abell too for all those reasons. Although I feel sometimes she lets her religious views enter in too much - personally I'm religious also but I believe religious views should be taught in church. I do love her passion & energy & believe she has the kids' best interests in mind! She's got my vote!

Thank you for your support.

I do love Chuck County!!

I do want whats best for the children, after all they are our future. When we are all old and gray, they will be the ones running this community and country.

I don't take any decision lightly and I'm happy to explain why I voted the way I did on any given topic, just ask me.

When "Anonymous" says that my religious views enter in too much, I would request further explanation. My response can be found under the topic of "religion" on my sight.

By the way, if you are interested in helping with the campaign, either monetarily or time-wise, please email me at abell4edu@verizon.net. Thanks.

Could we start a topic on the lack of enriching resources for children who are "above the middle" at the elementary level? Access to enrichment/advanced resources would need to be based on an objective criteria (CTY testing, etc.) as opposed to the subjective criteria (well behaved, quiet, popular) that seems to currently be the norm. Any of the "Center for Talented Youth" at Johns Hopkins advisors will tell you, most children with very high intelligence will be lacking in another area (sadly this is generally the social skills that the subjective criteria is based on). The school system is seriously failing this population.

What do I see as a solution to this problem? Early and consistent evaluation of students. Training for classroom staff in how to challenge these students and encourage, rather than knocking them down. A specific example of this would be: If a child asks a lot of questions, that are relevant to the subject, that takes a subject a step forward from the planned curriculum... let them research the answer and share it with the class.. rather than saying "that isn't what we are doing next."

The kids will love them for it, and have a positive attitude towards school. Teaching teachers these skills could be a valuable in-service for one of those inexplicable early dismissal days.

I just received an email from your campaign that stated that you are in favor of "opt-in" sex education in school. Care to explain what that is?

no, I didn't know that. I know there was a lot of controvery stirred up by the media and the EACC in 2004 when rumors were started that we, the Board, was considering removing evolution and teaching creationism. Again, this was all just a bunch of hype and WE HAVE NEVER DISCUSSED THIS TOPIC.

Wow, this is interesting. Jennifer Abell, you have disabled people from commenting on your blog topic you started about the 19 or so candidates running for board once someone mentioned how you got on the Board in the first place. And now all other posts must be approved by you. So much for transparency. Your doing this doesn't not look good.

I'm just commenting on this for the first time because I wanted to understand why you listed you never heard of Barbara Cooksey-Finney. Isn't she your cousin or something? Isn't her married or maiden name Abell also?

When did the Board ask for the public to volunteer for an open position? I've been a long time Charles County resident and I can not recall such a thing.

You were "interviewed" by current Board members (were any of them related to you and you forgot that also?) and the BOARD voted you on so that come the next election you were listed as an incumbent? So you never had to get Charles County residents to initially vote you on the Board. You were placed there and then presented to the public as someone already in the position. Hmm, no wonder I have not seen any campaign materials, ads, signs, posters, etc. around the County from you. You are so confident in your incumbent status (and your six years on the Board) that you don't see the need to run a re-election campaign. That status got your seat in the last election and you are banking on it securing your seat again.

And why act like you don't know who your cousin (aunt, niece, or whatever she is to you) is? What happened to transparency? Again, this is very interesting...

You assume a lot and have no facts. I will address each one of your questions/concerns.

The blog settings changed and as of a certain date in 2010 (I don't recall the date)comments on posts over a certain time frame are under moderation. If you try to comment on a recent (last 60 days) post it is not moderated. It's a SPAM filtering device.
"I'm just commenting on this for the first time because I wanted to understand why you listed you never heard of Barbara Cooksey-Finney. Isn't she your cousin or something? Isn't her married or maiden name Abell also?"
No, she is not my cousin or any relation that I am aware of. I did make a mistake in saying I didn't know her because I didn't recognize the name without the "Abell". I was introduced to her briefly twice while she was principal at Mechanicsville Elem. in my role as Director of the March of Dimes. That was it.
"When did the Board ask for the public to volunteer for an open position? I've been a long time Charles County resident and I can not recall such a thing."
The board solicited applications for an open board seat (Rebecca Bridgett Bolton) in 2004. I applied. This same method occurred again in 2005 when Ms. Levanduski resigned from her position. Board procedure for filling a vacant position.
"You were "interviewed" by current Board members (were any of them related to you and you forgot that also?)"
Nope, never had even met any of them, except Margaret Young once in my role as PTA Pres. at James Craik.
"and the BOARD voted you on so that come the next election you were listed as an incumbent?"
Correct.

Incorrect. I am not a politician and don't consider myself one. I am not stressed on winning for my own benefit. I feel honored to have served the county for the last six years and if the citizens want me for another four, I will be more than happy to oblige. If they don't, I'm fine with that too. I did the whole campaign thing in the 2006 elections. Sign, business cards, ads in the paper, poll workers, fundraisers...I didn't like it. I said early during this election that I would not be campaigning. With all the technological advances, I'm running a completely virtual campaign (see the Indy today). I have a few business cards left over from last election that I've been using & forums I've attended.
"And why act like you don't know who your cousin (aunt, niece, or whatever she is to you) is? What happened to transparency? Again, this is very interesting..."
Again, she is not related to my knowledge. I was married for 20 years and never met or heard of her in that capacity. If there is some relation, it's by marriage and it would have to be from centuries ago.
I don't know how much more transparent I can be. Everything is out there and has been out there for public knowledge for years. I have no secrets, no agenda, and there is no scam occurring. I'm sorry if you were not informed of all these issues. Maybe you would like to meet me and ask any additional questions you may have? The offer still stands.
