Arizona school officials violated the constitutional rights of a 13-year-old girl when they strip-searched her on the suspicion she might be hiding ibuprofen in her underwear, the Supreme Court ruled yesterday. The decision put school districts on notice that such searches are "categorically distinct" from other efforts to combat illegal drugs.

My respect for Justice Thomas took a nosedive with his opinion on this case.

Justice Thomas' moral compass is a bit skewed!

I truly agree with your statement. One would think having experienced the social uprising with the race wars; this Justice would think a strip search of a minor by school officials as a violation of a person's civil rights! Perhaps if he had a daughter vs. a son and step-son, he would think differently. He clearly does not get it! I hate to throw a race/gender card into the mix, but if the tables had been turned, would he have opined differently? I know it should not be about gender or race, it should be about the children regardless of race, gender, religion...and the moral obligation of protecting our most precious resources, our children and our future...

As a parent and a member of the legal community, Justice Thomas is completely out of touch with reality. A child should not be treated like someone being arrested and in-processed into a prison. Thank goodness Justice Ginsburg was there to speak up and explain to her all-male counterparts that this is and will always be considered WRONG! This all coming after her surgery; perhaps her determination to get back to work was prompted by the importance of this case. I believe she understood how this case impacted many parents and their ability to protect the rights of their children. Maybe it has something to do as not only her being a member of the highest court but also a parent of a son AND a daughter! We need more women on the bench...thank goodness there is one more women now!

I hope the incident did not have any detrimental effect on her ability to remain an honor student now that she is in college.
