Notes for Board of Education Meeting, 6/11/19
The below notes are my personal notes and are not intended to be all-inclusive or official minutes for the Board of Education meetings and are provided as a request from my supporters and the general public in a personal effort to be more transparent. Although I have diligently tried to make these notes as unbiased and accurate as possible, I am only human and do make mistakes.

- Abell - Busy month with graduations, promotions, retirements, and ceremonies; thank you to St. Charles Life Skills Class for inviting me to the Torch Run and thank you to Jamie Dyson for making run.
- Wilson - Cobb Island Day; MABE service academy on legislation; graduations; scholarships; project graduation; rural broadband strategy workshop; new student government members welcome

Information - North Point career and technology education (CTE) program selection process
- Presentation
- Battle-Lockhart - read a sample letter of denial in a program but was second option available? unclear.
- Wilson - marketing of other high schools CTE programs. Perception is NP CTE is best.
- Battle-Lockhart - how many graduates transition into that field - PQI Report
- McDonough Agriculture program begins next school year and already has 16 students
- Keith Elkins program being extended to more schools.
- Abell - reconfirming buildings will be kept at a comfortable level for those staff still working during the summer.
- Lukas - as a citizen and taxpayer i'm for it but as a board member i'm not. we have to abide by APFO.
- Hancock - opportunity zone is also a rural legacy zone; protected.; Rapid transit line 2/3 in PG.
- Schools affected for Waldorf would be Stone, Jenifer, Mattawoman, JP Ryon, and Hanson.
- yield factor for housing multi family .386 and townhomes .459 would equate to 226 additional students in East Waldorf and 89 additional students in West Waldorf
- $200M investment by developers in project.
- Abell - likes our rural/suburban county. not urban community. how are we going to pay for this? where are we going to put them? what options are being considered and put on the table. If separate funds are put in an account, request that they be dedicated solely to schools and not just APFO.
- Kindergarten addition at Ryon; funding from county government/developer on Hanson renovations.
- Wilson - requested the options be put in writing for board review. Light rail is a ways away and all of the build up is going to cause more congestion that we aren't prepared for. Does workforce housing include incentives for teachers? What jobs would
- Lukas - priority would be to forward fund a middle school
- Hancock - map this out of schools affected and what the overall impact would be on the system.
- Abell - humbly request to sit on any committees that may form.
- McGraw - impact on schools; supports in place for renovations

- Outstanding Vice Principal of the Year Award: Anthony Carroll, vice principal, Matthew Henson Middle School
- Outstanding Support Staff Awards: Ronald Brawner Jr., maintenance worker, CCPS maintenance shop; Marie Woodland, building service assistant manager, Jesse L. Starkey Administration Building; Tammy Dudley, kindergarten instructional assistant, J.C. Parks Elementary School; and Ronald Cave, computer analyst, Starkey.
- Courtney Dowling - parent of two through CCPS; awesome teachers for both. thankful for being in CCPS. friends son committed suicide in January and was in awe with how the community came together to support the family. Parents need to be viligant.
- Linda McLaughlin - EACC president. blueprint kirwan commission. Advocate. Build Relationships. Community. make community understand the blueprint of kirwan.
- Jacqueline Coullivan - Fresh Start Academy. Not assigned as a consequence. Clear communication that it is a supporting service. Secure a transparent parent partnership. Proposed timeline is not adequate. cant change behavior in 45 days. Therapeutic support is a must. Having surgery for injuries she received from a small child in a rage. It's urgent that we move forward with the academy.
- Somenet ???? - parent. student from NP was unable to finish their program and teacher cheated on their test. International students learning here, need to repeat the grade. see something, say something is a joke. Teachers are instructed to hide and avoid the problem, Ms. Taylor is the best principal.
- Poll on social media with over 2,000 respondents with over 75% wanted to start after labor day.

- Hancock - asked for clarification on bus policy
- Lukas - line item for community service, thank you for the response in the weekly update. How many non-ccps students are being transported? What makes up the rest of the line item?
