Notes from Board of Education Meeting, 4/4/17
- Kelly - MESA and DI Competitions, thank you to everyone involved; NSBA conference in Denver, relationships matter; possibility of having a parent town hall
- McGraw - History Club game night a success
- Marshall - Black History Month at Somers during program with African drums. Unity is Strength and Division is Weakness. I Believe in Youth.
- Kelly - NSBA Conference, astronaut Kelly speaker.; congratulations to staff recognized at years of service ceremony; attended secondary MESA competition.
- Lukas - Attended chorus and NSBA Conference.
- Crawford - January 25th - closed; makes a 3 day week, no way to change
- Marshall - hears repeatedly that the public wants their Spring Break back. Knows our hands or tied by the Governors Executive Order. Should have had waiver application.
- Palko - attended state board meeting where a waiver was granted but only because they were an 11 month school.

- Expansion proposal because we hit a ceiling on numbers at McDonough. Expand to two high schools. Largest numbers of ELL populations is Thomas Stone and Westlake. McDonough enrollment will decrease. Will create the same support system at the two new schools.
- Sick Leave bills have passed thus far in both houses. Unclear about substitute teachers.
- HB461/SB462 - Testing cap bills have passed both houses.
- HB978 - States accountability plan has passed house.
- HB1240 - special education burden of proof
- HB174/SB710 - parents rights in IEP process
- HB425/SB651 - K,1,2 suspensions
- SB760 - teacher recommended for termination or suspension right to arbitration
- SB232/HB616 - require local boards to set policy on attendance of pregnant students
- SB1060/HB1082 - require boards to expand addiction services and adopt policies on administering and storing overdose medications.
- Kelly - State CIP Meeting and if Stoddert expansion was approved.
- Kelly - wants to know if we can readdress the naming of the school.
